Welcome to Island Bay Divers, operating from the ' White House' - the home of diving in Wellington. The shop/dive Centre occupies the whole building located on the corner of Reef St and The Parade, Island Bay (see map).

The shop is 200m from the Island Bay beach & fishing harbour.

It is less than a mile from the wreck site of F69 - the Frigate HMNZS Wellington. The 'F69' Frigate Wellington was sunk off Wellington's south coast in November 2005. It has now broken into two sectiond , 50m apart.

We are the city's most experienced dive store (established 1985) and provide the full range of dive services - training, trips & 'toys'. For more information see our training and retail pages.

Island Bay is one of New Zealand's top dive sites, and it is right in the middle of the capital city, Wellington. Island Bay's rocky coastline bordering the deep clear waters of Cook Strait provides an extremely varied habitat for a wide variety of fish species.

Island Bay is right in the middle of Wellington's Taputeranga marine reserve. The reserve starts just inside Princess Bay and ends half way through the bay just past the quarry gates. This will see the amount of marine life on our south coast increase dramatically in the coming years.

If 7/8ths of the Planet Earth is underwater, you haven't seen the world until you completed a dive course. Island Bay Divers can show you the way to safely and enjoyably explore the exciting, silent world at your feet.

Island Bay Divers has been owned and operated by Tim Walshe for 25 years, providing retail sales, equipment hire, equipment servicing, training & dive courses (Naui/ Padi & CMAS), trips, and organised activities.

We are Wellington's most experienced dive store:

  • Wellington's oldest PADI Facility; A Padi Dive Centre
  • Wellington's only NAUI Facility; A NAUI Career Centre
  • Wellington's only CMAS facility

All our sales staff are very experienced divers - most of them are Instructors.
