If you are taking crayfish you need to check they are not soft. The females are molting soon. If you are not sure how to tell the sex of a crayfish, click on https://www.mpi.govt.nz/travel-and-recreation/fishing/fishing-rules/central-area-fishing-rules/
Once the females have moulted they will mate & move into egg phase. It is illegal to take female crayfish when they are in soft shell (this is for a few days after a moult) or have eggs. Most females will have dropped their eggs by September.
